Deep Planet's focus is on leveraging satellite data for agriculture, water, forestry and oil and gas industries. Using neural networks, we have accurately identified vineyards in the world, measured plant stress and predicted soil moisture levels. Other projects include oil and gas monitoring and water level prediction capability. 

Deep Planet is backed by the European Space Agency BIC UK, Copernicus Incubation Programme along with UK Government Innovation grants. Lead Research Scientist 

Job Duties 

  • Conduct independent research in the field of computer vision for satellite image analysis
  • Develop research methods, implement and report upon undertaken research
  • Lead a team of junior researchers. Monitor the standards of technical research undertaken by the research team. Establish annual and mid-term goals for the ML team
  • Present the results of the team findings within the company and at external events
  • Collaborate with end user product owners to understand customer needs

Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or similar disciplines
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms with strong emphasis on deep learning
  • Experience with common machine learning toolkits, such as Python (preferable), R and/or Java, excellence in at least one of these is essential for the position
  • Minimum three years of demonstrable practical experience working with machine learning algorithms
  • Experience of working in international teams is required
  • Experience of working in startups is desirable

Machine Learning Researcher

Front End/Full Stack Web Developer

Job Duties 

  • Pioneer and evangelise front end technologies 
  • Create reusable, scalable, maintainable and well-tested solutions
  • Collaborate with end user product owners to understand customer needs
  • Lead the efforts on establishing best practices and upholding coding standards
  • Take initiative and ownership of projects from design to implementation to deployment
  • Juggle multiple responsibilities and projects at once, while still focusing on the top priority at any given time

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5+ years developing and implementing complex web based UIs
  • 1+ years of production experience with React / Redux JS Frameworks
  • Experience with maps required 
  • Object oriented and functional Javascript experience
  • Experience with build tools such as Webpack, Grunt, etc.
  • Working knowledge of CSS3 (SASS/LESS preferred) and HTML5 with a strong attention to detail, polish, and responsive design
  • Excellent communication skills suited for a highly interactive team environment
  • Experience with TDD, Agile practices (Scrum, Lean, Kanban), and GitHub
  • Experience with LAMP / MEAN stack development is a plus
  • Experience with other JS frameworks is a plus (Backbone, Angular, etc.)

Earth Observation Specialist

Job Duties

  • Work as part of the R&D team to design, manage and maintain the GIS schemas, databases and datasets. Work with business users to define data needs
  • Use GIS to perform database development, spatial analysis and feature extraction and manipulation
  • Understanding of data requirements for different thematic applications and ability to locate appropriate data 
  • Create tools to automate spatial analysis and feature extraction and manipulation
  • Develop methods and rule-sets for conflation of client data with internal models
  • Maintain metadata and documentation, perform topology checks and other data
  • Quality checks to identify and correct errors or omissions in data
  • Participate in and support production teams on projects with GIS deliverables
  • Contribute to the design of the future projects and applications for funding by providing expert input 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post Graduate Qualification in a directly related discipline 
  • Previous experience reviewing and assessing Earth Observation services
  • Desirable programming skills such as Python and R
  • Experience in deriving data from pre-processed radar and/or optical datasets
  • Capable of identifying existing data sources to integrate within a service, such as  sourcing relevant soil, weather, climate and/or historical events datasets
  • Ability to analyse and solve spatial analysis problems
  • Good communication skills and teamwork
