Data and Engineering Team Lead
The Role
DeepPlanet, a rapidly growing start-up, working in the field of sustainable agriculture, is looking for a Data and Engineering Lead. This role is remote or based in Oxford, UK.
What you will do
Lead a team of Data Scientists, Machine Learning (ML) researchers, and Software Engineers across simultaneous product-related and research-related projects.
Lead planning, design, and execution of data science/machine learning deliverables.
Manage product-related remote sensing and data analysis requests, and other support tasks to ensure timely execution of activities to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
Ensure validation of all machine learning modeling outcomes specifically with main company product with respect to main Machine Learning metrics accuracy and uncertainty.
Drive effective use of available resources, provide recommendations regarding architectural solutions across modeling tools, ensure data management and model development strategy is in place, and product delivery methods are suitable for each project.
Ensure deliverables are scalable, robust, and meet engineering standards.
Coordinate work effort between dependent groups (internally and externally) to drive completion of the projects for Data Science and Machine Learning related research and product development.
Own Machine Learning development pipeline (from a prototype to deployment).
Support hiring and scaling the product and R&D team.
What You Need To Succeed
10+ years in a software engineering position or similar function in a Machine Learning or AI product-related team, with a strong understanding of the full software development life cycle, agile development, and continuous integration.
5+ years of experience in managing AI/ML engineers to develop real-world applications (i.e., customer-facing applications, not research or back-end processes).
5+ years of experience in engineering leadership role managing, mentoring and providing technical project management guidance to other tech team members.
A degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related discipline.
Key stack capabilities: Python, MySQL/Postgres/Snowflake, Google Cloud/AWS, Tensorflow/Pytorch.
Analytically drive: leverages analysis and metrics to drive decisions.
Nice to have-s: Experience with satellite imagery, IoT, or agricultural applications.
